Girls Generation made their debut all the way back on August 5th in 2007, and as one of the longest running girl groups within the industry, they are celebrating their 15th debut anniversary in August this year.

In celebration of their debut anniversary, They released a new album titled “Forever 1”

“Forever 1” marked their 7th full-length album, and is the first project they made as a whole group since their previous LP “Holiday Night” released back in 2017.

The plan for this album is said to have been made since their 14th anniversary last year. Within this full length album, there are a total of 10 tracks, including the title track “Forever 1”. Amongst the side tracks, Girls Generation members Tiffany and Sooyoung participated in writing and producing “Villain” and “Seventeen”. Group leader Taeyeon described the title track to be tailor made for them, it is an upbeat pop song with festive mood, it is about appreciating and showing love to those that are precious to them.

The group started their hiatus on their group activities in 2017, as they wanted to focus on their individual activities. Back in 2017, three of the members, Tiffany, Sooyoung and the group’s maknae Seohyun, also discontinued their contract and left SM Entertainment after 10 years. However, when they left the agency, they mentioned how they are still a part of Girls Generation.

A lot of their fans and other people were worried that Girls Generation would break up after a period of time being in this predicament. 

Through the celebration of their debut anniversary, Girls Generation showed people how they are still staying together and are stronger than ever.

In multiple interviews, the members expressed how the making of this particular album is more emotional than all their previous ones. They expressed that because they are now focussing on their individual careers, the time that they gather for this album felt more precious than before the reunion. 

When asked about how they came together for this album, leader taeyeon mentioned how gathering 8 busy women was not an easy task, but through their goal and love for the group they managed to get together to put out this album.

Although there are still no other mentions of future plans for the group, it is safe to say that “Forever 1” put an end to the group’s extended hiatus period.
